World chess mates to face off in lower Manhattan

The finest chess players in the world will go head to head from Nov. 11 to 30 in lower Manhattan.

The 12-game FIDE World Chess Championship Match will pit 25-year-old reigning champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway against 26-year-old challenger Sergey Karjakin of Russia in the Fulton Market Building at the South Street Seaport.

The players will compete in a soundproof glass room made specially for the competition. VIP lounges and seating for some 300 spectators will be available. Event organizers said they would soon announce ticketing info.

Organizers said the last championship match, in 2014, drew 1.2 billion viewers.
